While Yoga is great for increasing strength and flexibility, as well as improving general wellbeing, it is not just a physical practice. It is an internal practice that unifies mind, body and breath to create meditative awareness – a state in which are able to connect with ourself and experience life on a deeper level. Too often we look outward into our environment for things to make us happy when all the conditions required for a meaningful and content life are already within us.
With regular practice you will create more internal spaciousness, release yourself from old patterns that may be pulling toward unnecessary worry and tension, as well as making you more solid on the earth so that you are less swayed by external circumstances. You will soon discover your true self and start to live with awareness, firmly anchored in the present moment where your life is actually happening. By living with awareness, we are free.
My style of teaching is based on the Ashtanga method, a dynamic moving meditation with a strong emphasis on the breath – delivered in a gentle way that is both accessible and sustainable so that anyone can practice.
TRAUMA INFORMED YOGA
“Trauma robs a victim of a sense of power and control,” – Judith Herman
Emotional pain and traumatic memories can be stored in the body long after exposure to a traumatic situation has ended.
Trauma arises when one’s human immobility responses do not resolve; that is, when one cannot make the transition back to normal life, and the immobility reaction becomes chronically coupled with fear and other intense negative emotions such as dread and helplessness.
The goal of trauma informed yoga is to provide a safe and nurturing space to allow for a person to reconnect and befriend their body, as well as being able to self regulate through the body regardless of whatever is rising.
While talk therapy can be useful for some, connecting with the body is vital for healing trauma. Many find the combination of both yoga and counselling to be ideal.

All levels of experience, energy level and emotional state are welcomed and embraced. Naomi has an incredible wealth of knowledge and huge capacity in her own practice, she is an inspiration but she has never made me feel lesser or small, i believe this is what makes her group classes so accessible and comfortable for beginners.
