Yoga & meditation teacher| counsellor| mother
After graduating with a Communication degree from Griffith University in 2004, I travelled to Kathmandu, Nepal to work as a Journalist for their national news paper. While it was an incredible experience and a great learning curve, my heart just wasn’t in it. I found myself more drawn to the spiritual elements of Nepal rather than the work at hand. Several years later after the birth of my two children, I finally responded to my true calling and began to deepen my yoga practice which helped me so much as a mother. The more that I practiced, the clearer and more grounded I became. I learnt to live in the ‘here and now’, where my life is happening and beautiful. Now I am truly grateful for being able to share what I have learned and continue to learn on this path so that others may experience deep peace and fulfilment regardless of their life circumstances.
I completed my 200 Hour Yoga Teacher Training with Michelle Cassidy at Essence of Living in 2013. Since then I have continued to practice Ashtanga yoga and Zen under the guidance of my teacher, Mark Togni.
I also completed my Trauma Sensitive yoga training with Shirly Hicks of Trauma Sensitive Yoga Australia in 2014 and have experience working with various women’s shelters – empowering and healing survivors of domestic violence and sexual abuse through yoga. In 2014 I travelled to Cambodia to establish a trauma sensitive yoga therapy program for the survivors at AFESIP’s rehabilitation centres in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap.
My teaching style is simple, with a focus on embodied movement and breath…you don’t have to be flexibly or strong, if you can breathe, you can practice. All that I ask of you as a teacher is that you stay open and curious to your inner experience.
A natural progression on my journey as a yoga teacher/student has been providing somatic psychotherapy – I am a fully qualified holistic counsellor registered with the ACA (Australian Counselling Association) and love helping others to heal and connect with themself, as well as empowering them with the tools to navigate life with confidence and purpose.
If I’m not on the mat, I’m out in the bush connecting with nature one step at a time. I love walking, like yoga it induces clarity – its pace and simplicity brings me back home to myself.
